Ride for Nicholas Weis

BVC is proud to be hosting our first charity bicycle ride in order to benefit members of our local community and to assist with the raising of funds in order to cover escalating costs of medical treatement.  To that end we are hosting a charity bicycle ride on Sunday, May 16th, 2010 at 2:00pm in Elon to benefit Nicholas Weis.

Nicholas Weis is a 10 year old boy from Mebane, NC. At the age of 2, he started to have headaches and an MRI showed a tumor about the size of an adult thumb and a fluid sack about the size of an adult fist. He had a very aggressive tumor called an Anaplastic Ependynoma. After several craniotomies (open brain surgery), chemotherapy, many medications, and Gamma Knife Radiosurgery the tumor would return year after year. In December 2009, several tumors were found and he is no longer a candidate for Gamma Knife surgery. He will start chemo with a new drug in hopes that it wll keep the tumors at bay for two years until something else comes along.
