Our club has enjoyed an excellent and safe season of cycling. We have experienced growth within the club at all levels from beginners to experienced racers. It feels great being part of such a dynamic group of cycling enthusiasts. It is very rewarding to see so many people entering the world of cycling and enjoying themselves with the fellowship of others.
So what, you may ask, lies next for us? Well, we have big plans coming up in the next couple of months. We recently completed our first annual kid's bike clinic with a good turnout, great weather, food and we were able to purchase a bicycle for a deserving young man that I feel certain will forever hold a special place in his life for bicycles. As we transition from Summer to Autumn, it is important to take note of many added local cycling events in the area. You will see notifications of these on our Facebook page, the club calender to your right and they will be communicated at our meetings and rides.
Dave Phillips is planning a century ride in October for our "C" group riders. This is a great opportunity to set and complete a goal that almost every road cyclist looks forward to achieving. I cannot stress enough, the importance of training and preparation for completing a century ride. Though you may have been riding regularly this whole season, it is extremely important to take additional steps in enhancing your cycling skills to successfully complete a century ride. I know that Dave has set a schedule and training plan for anyone that wishes to join his group rides and prepare for the upcoming event. Please make every attempt to communicate with him and attend his training sessions. I did not complete my first century attempt due to improper preparation and over-confidence of my abilities at the time. I quickly learned my lesson and have completed numerous 100+ mile rides since then. Poor planning will yield poor results.
Look for our riding schedule to be amended as the time changes to accommodate a safe atmosphere while the days grow shorter. I look forward to seeing you on the road and trails.
