Burlington Velo Club’s Youth Development Program
The goals of Burlington Velo Club’s Youth Development Program are to grow the sport of junior cycling by increasing exposure of cycling to area youths, educate youth cyclists about cycling safety, promote healthy lifestyles through cycling for the next generation and their families, and to promote principle values of good sportsmanship, teamwork and attitude.
Membership into Burlington Velo Club’s Youth Development Program is open to boys and girls between the ages of 10-18 years old. Our program is open to all levels of riding ability from the beginning cyclist to the more advanced cyclist. We embrace USA Cycling’s concept of competency, and facilitate our members' development through the different stages by providing the opportunity to increase proficiency in physical preparation, training/competitive behaviors, sport psychological behaviors, technical, tactical and equipment knowledge. We also teach the etiquette of cycling to ensure our members are great ambassadors for the sport of cycling.
Our youth program is supported by volunteer coaches, parents and BVC members, and therefore no additional program fees are required other than Burlington Velo Club annual membership dues (currently $20 per individual and $25 per family). Although participating in races is not a requirement of membership into the youth program, many of our youths choose to race. If the youth wishes to race in USA Cycling events, an annual license must be obtained through USA Cycling (be sure to register under Burlington Velo Club racing team) and racing team apparel can be purchased through Burlington Velo Club. If your youth is interested in joining the youth program please contact us for additional information.
